Preparation and characterization of the enzyme which converts testosterone to androstenedione.

Since the destruction of testosterone by liver mince (1) is accelerated by the addition of either diphosphopyridine nucleotide (DPN) or citrate (2), an attempt has been made to obtain active cell-free extracts from liver tissue and to isolate the different enzyme systems involved. In this paper the separation of the enzyme activated by DPN which converts testosterone to androstenedione is described and its physicochemical characteristic.8 determined.
